About Ocean Breath
When I walk by, or swim in the ocean, it always seems easier to breathe! Often the sea breeze brushes past me and I feel refreshed and invigorated, ready to face life with new strength.

As I look at the ocean, it helps put things into perspective. Usually, whatever negative things are going on for me, become less impacting when I’m looking at the ocean.
​
The ocean represents grace to me. The abundance of kindness that is available to us, in width and depth. To remember there is an abundance of grace available is so helpful for me and it creates a ripple effect for those I share it with.
Breath is life and spirit. As we connect with our breath we open ourselves up to receive life and goodness and let go of life's difficulties. Breath helps our lungs, and lives, expand.

My hope is that Ocean Breath Counselling will be a place where you can experience a wide and deep grace, with time and space to breathe so that life can be experienced in its full.

My name is Xanthe and I have been a teacher for 20years. I majored in Personal Development, Health and Physical Education where I loved to incorporate concepts like self-esteem, promoting healthy social connections and positive well-being in the classroom. I started seeing a counsellor when I found myself not coping with my own storms of life. This provided a framework to understand myself better than any classroom lesson or text could allow. This learning was so valuable in changing my state of mind and the way I related to those around me. Now I am able to offer that same support during times of challenge to my clients.

All of us need a new perspective, a listening ear and a whole lot of understanding at some stage on this journey of life.

What is Counselling?
People who come to counselling are uniquely normal.
​
It is a normal human occurrence to experience emotions, and have different parts of us experience those emotions differently. Each one of us will have a unique way of interacting with those experiences which affect the way we think, feel and behave. It is then normal for these thoughts, feelings and behaviors to impact how we relate to each other.
​
Counselling provides a space of safety for clients to get to know themselves and all their complex parts. It gives clients permission to be their unique selves and have that reflected back to them. Counselling provides the opportunity to expand without restriction and find a freedom in who they are.
​
It is normal to grow, change and develop throughout our lifetime and relationships are also on a change trajectory, and sometimes they have change thrust upon them. This usually requires adaption which can be difficult and needs the support of another. Just as house renovations may be messy, chaotic and uncomfortable, so can renovations in a relationship.
​
Counselling is about helping clients rebuild their way of relating using Interpersonal Process and Emotionally Focused Therapy as a way to focus on increased honest communication and create a ripple effect of change.

I use an integrative model to work alongside you towards the change you desire.
You can expect kindness, calm and connection when you enter the space of Ocean Breath Counselling. I work from a somatic (body) and systemic (current, past and cultural) framework to inform my practice. You can expect me to collaborate and journey with you on your path of understanding yourself. Pictures, visualisation and metaphors may feature in our explorations, as well as connecting to yourself through breathing and listening to the messages of your body.
